Introduction: Say Goodbye to Stiffness, Starting with a Chair
Do you feel tightness in your back and shoulders after sitting in front of a computer every day? Don't worry, this is very common. Today, I'll share a simple tip - a gentle chair rotation stretch. You don't need any equipment, just a sturdy chair, and in 3 minutes you can make your body feel comfortable. This movement comes from ancient health wisdom, helping us to activate our muscles, unblock meridians, and promote smooth circulation of qi and blood.

Technique Details: Seated Spinal Twist
Applicable Physical Issues
This movement mainly relieves lower back pain and shoulder stiffness caused by prolonged sitting, and also improves posture, making the spine more flexible.
How to Perform the Movement and Complete Steps
- Seat firmly on the chair: Sit on the front edge of the chair, legs together, feet flat on the floor. Do not slide your hips.
- Adjust your breathing: Breathe in deeply first, feeling the expansion of the ribs. Mentally say "inhale," allowing the breath to sink down.
- Gently twist: Exhale, slowly turn your upper body to the right. Place your right hand gently on the right backrest or thigh, and your left hand on the outer side of the right knee. Look toward the back of your right shoulder, but do not turn your head all the way, just feel comfortable.
- Hold for several breaths: In the twisted position, hold for 3-5 deep breaths. With each inhale, imagine your spine stretching upward, and with each exhale, slightly deepen the twist. Be careful not to use brute force, keep your shoulders relaxed and your chin slightly tucked in.
- Return to center: Inhale, slowly turn your head, shoulders, and torso back to the front. Relax for a moment.
- Repeat on the other side: Follow the same steps to turn to the left, then hold for 3-5 breaths. Completing both sides makes one set.
Benefits for the Body
This gentle twist is like giving your spine a massage - it awakens the muscles on both sides of the spine, promotes blood circulation in the lower back, and helps relax the abdomen. Doing 2-3 sets daily, you will feel the stiffness in your back gradually ease, and your breathing becomes smoother. Long-term practice can also help correct issues such as anterior pelvic tilt or rounded shoulders caused by prolonged sitting.
Summary: Go with Nature, Maintain Balance Between Movement and Stillness
Prolonged sitting is like a blocked river, while stretching is a gentle way to clear it. You don't need to sweat heavily or push yourself hard. Just spend a few minutes each day, doing a few turns on the chair, and your body can regain its sense of ease. Remember: the best health care is to follow your body's rhythm and maintain a balance between movement and stillness. Try it out, your back and waist will thank you.
