Before Your Period, Your Body is Whispering
Do you feel irritable, have chest tightness, and a cold lower abdomen a few days before your period each month? According to traditional Chinese medicine, this is your body's way of signaling: it's time to slow down and warm up. Today, I'm sharing a simple home remedy - combining evening primrose oil with a warm breakfast to help your body follow its natural rhythm.

Who Is This Remedy Suitable For
- Experience mood swings and chest discomfort a few days before your period
- Feel cold in the lower abdomen and like to use a hot water bottle
- Prefer simple methods and want to make small adjustments in daily diet
What You Need and How to Do It
The ingredients are simple: one teaspoon of evening primrose oil (about 3 to 5 milliliters), a bowl of warm millet porridge or oatmeal, plus a few dates and a handful of chopped walnuts.
Method: Cook the porridge until soft, let it cool slightly so it's not too hot, then add the evening primrose oil, sprinkle with dates and walnuts, and eat slowly. It's best to eat it in the morning. Start one week before your period and have one bowl every day.
Why This Combination Helps
Evening primrose oil is mild and moisturizing, like adding a little lubricant to your body; millet and oats nourish the spleen and stomach, dates replenish blood and qi, and walnuts warm the body. Traditional Chinese medicine says "if the qi and blood flow smoothly, the person will be smooth." The warm porridge warms the stomach, relaxes the body, and makes those days more comfortable. It's not medicine, just a small habit that follows your body's rhythm.
Small Habits to Enhance the Effect
- Don't go out into the cold immediately after eating, wear a jacket and sit for a while
- Soak your feet in warm water for ten minutes at night, warming up to the ankles
- Drink less cold drinks and more warm water during these days
Take It Slow, Your Body Will Remember
Adjusting your qi and blood is not something that happens overnight. A bowl of warm porridge, a teaspoon of evening primrose oil, plus early bedtime and keeping warm, is telling your body: I am taking care of you. Following nature and gradually balancing things is more effective than rushing.
