Exercise Details: Seated Side Waist Stretch

Preparation

Find a stable chair, sit upright, place both feet flat on the ground, with knees at about 90 degrees, and let your hands rest naturally on your thighs.

Steps

  • Inhale, slowly lift your right arm upward, close to your ear.
  • Exhale, tilt your body to the left, extend your right hand in the direction of the top of your head, and feel the stretch on the right side of your waist.
  • Hold for three to five breaths, don't hold your breath.
  • Inhale to return to the original position, then repeat on the left side.

Do three times on each side. The slower the better, like drawing a rainbow slowly on the chair.

Notes

Don't bend forward or backward, keep your body in a single plane. If your shoulders are tense, you can just lift to the level of your elbow. The stretch should be comfortable, not painful.

Physical Improvement Effects

This exercise gently opens up the sides of the waist and ribs, promotes blood circulation, and helps restore elasticity to a stiff body after prolonged sitting. With regular practice, your back and waist will become more flexible, and your sitting posture will be more upright.

Summary

The key to preventing back pain from long periods of sitting is knowing how to stretch. Spend three minutes every day doing this gentle side waist stretch on a chair, follow your body's rhythm, balance between movement and stillness, and gradually form a habit. Remember, comfort is the most important, don't force yourself.
