Introduction
Do you often sit for several hours at a time? Do you suffer from back and waist pain, stiff shoulders, or feel tightness across your entire back when standing up? Don't worry, you don't need complicated equipment or a gym. Today, I'm sharing an extremely simple home exercise - the Cat-Cow Pose on a chair. It originates from gentle yoga and combines the Chinese health concept of "activating the joints and promoting blood circulation." You can do it during office breaks or on the sofa, safely and comfortably. Remember, our goal is to relax, not to push your body to its limits.

Tips Explained: Cat-Cow Pose on a Chair
Applicable Physical Issues
Stiffness in the lower back caused by prolonged sitting, inflexible spine, tension in the lower back, and poor blood circulation caused by long periods of fixed posture. This movement gently mobilizes the entire spine, like a gentle massage for the spine.
How to Perform the Exercise and Complete Steps
Step 1: Find a chair with a backrest, sit on the front third of the chair, place both feet flat on the ground, shoulder-width apart. Place your hands lightly on your knees and relax your shoulders.
Step 2: Inhale, slowly lift your chest, push your belly forward, and let your spine arch backward like a small bridge, lifting your head naturally and looking straight ahead. This is the "Cow Pose" - stretching your body like a cow.
Step 3: Exhale, slowly curve your back, bring your chin close to your chest, and gently push your hands toward your knees, pulling your belly back, feeling your entire back arch like a cat. This is the "Cat Pose."
Step 4: Repeat this process of inhaling to lift your chest and exhaling to curve your back, coordinating each movement with your breath, slow and smooth. Do 8 to 10 times, or as many times as you feel comfortable.
Physical Improvement Effects
This exercise activates the deep muscles of the back through the wave-like movement of the spine, relieving pressure on the lumbar vertebrae. At the same time, it promotes blood circulation in the lower back and helps unblock the Bladder Meridian and the Governor Vessel - two meridians that Traditional Chinese Medicine considers crucial for spinal health. Doing 2 to 3 sets daily, you will feel your whole body warm up, and the stiffness and aches from prolonged sitting will gradually disappear.
Summary
The Cat-Cow Pose on a Chair is a safe, beginner-friendly, and easily accessible home technique. It requires no equipment and is suitable for both the elderly and young people. Remember to perform the movements slowly and breathe deeply, drawing a gentle mountain line with your body like painting. When you incorporate this "balance of movement and stillness" into your life, back and waist discomfort will decrease, and you'll feel more energetic overall.
