Introduction: Sitting too long, your waist will tell you it's tired
Did you feel tightness and soreness on both sides of your waist after sitting all day? Don't worry, it's not a big problem. It's just your body reminding you: it's time to move. Today, I'll teach you a very simple little exercise that can be done with just a chair, which is safe and gentle. Even if you've never exercised before, you can start learning right away. Our goal is only one: stretch without hurting your back when sitting for a long time, and also loosen up your muscles and bones.

Tips Explained: Seated Side Waist Stretch
Who is this suitable for?
People who sit for long periods at work, watching TV, or using their phones, especially those who feel stiff in their back and waist or have a闷 (stuffy) feeling on the side of their waist. It's completely fine even for older people, as long as they have a stable chair and can sit steadily.
How to perform the movement?
- Step 1: Sit stably on the chair, try to move your buttocks as far back as possible, so that your back leans against the backrest. Place both feet flat on the ground, about the same width as your shoulders.
- Step 2: Place your hands naturally on your thighs, then slowly straighten your back, feeling as if there's a thread gently pulling your head upward.
- Step 3: Raise your right arm and stretch it toward the top of your head, then slowly bend your entire body to the left. Remember, it should be a bend starting from the side waist, not twisting your waist or bending forward.
- Step 4: Gently place your left hand on the edge of the chair or your thigh, don't pull hard. Maintain this position, breathe three to five times, and each time you exhale, let your body relax a bit more.
- Step 5: Then slowly return to the center, switch sides, and bend your body to the right with your left arm. Complete both sides as one round, do it three times, and you will feel your waist being gently stretched.
What are the benefits after doing it?
This movement can stretch the muscles on the side of your waist, making the tense back and waist less tight. According to traditional Chinese medicine, it helps us to loosen our muscles and bones, unblock meridians, and promote the smooth flow of qi and blood, thus making your waist much lighter. Moreover, the movement is slow, has little risk, and also helps improve balance, allowing your body to regain its natural posture.
A small reminder
Don't hold your breath while doing it, and don't overdo the range of motion. Just bend to the position that feels comfortable for you. This is about taking care of your body, not competing. Remember the principle of "balance between movement and stillness" - when you sit for a long time, you need to move, follow your body's rhythm, and you can promote the circulation of qi and blood, making you more energetic the longer you sit.
Summary: A few minutes every day, a relaxed waist for life
As you can see, with just a chair and a simple movement, you can relieve most of the fatigue from sitting for a long time. Don't rush to do too much at once; whenever you remember, practice two times a day, and your waist will be happy, and you will feel at ease. Loosening your muscles and bones relies on persistence.
