Introduction
Do you feel sore and stiff in your back or waist after spending the day sitting on the sofa or in front of the computer? Don't worry, you don't need to go to the gym or use any equipment. Today, I'll share a simple and gentle home flexibility trick - "Yunshou" (Cloud Hands) from Tai Chi. The movements are slow and light, but they can help you loosen up your muscles and unblock your meridians. Elderly friends can also follow along safely!
Applicable Physical Issues

This exercise is specifically for:
- Neck and shoulder stiffness caused by long periods of sitting
- Lower back aches and tightness in the back
- Joints such as knees and wrists not being flexible enough
- Worsening balance and easy fatigue
How to Perform the Exercise: Complete Steps
1. Preparatory Posture
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, slightly bent knees, and hands naturally hanging down. If you feel unstable standing, you can also sit on the front third of a chair, keeping your back straight.
2. Start Yunshou
Slowly lift your right hand, palm facing inward, drawing a large horizontal circle in front of your chest. Imagine you're gently pushing away a cloud. At the same time, shift your body weight slightly to the right, and your eyes follow your right hand.
3. Switch Sides
When your right hand reaches the farthest right, slowly lower it and switch to your left hand starting from the left side, shifting your weight to the left. The whole process should be like waves, alternating left and right.
4. Breathing Coordination

Breathe naturally: exhale slowly when moving your hand outward, and inhale gently when bringing your hand back. Don't try to control it; let your breathing and movements coordinate like old friends.
5. Repetition Count
Perform 8-10 times on each side as a set, doing 1-2 sets per day. If you feel comfortable, you can do more sets, and stop when you feel tired.
Physical Improvement Effects
Yunshou gently rotates your spine and shoulders, gradually loosening tight muscles. It also promotes blood circulation (known in Traditional Chinese Medicine as "promoting qi and blood flow"), making the meridians around the joints more unblocked. Spend just a few minutes every day, and you will feel your body becoming lighter and your balance improving. For elderly friends, it is safe, does not harm the knees, and can help prevent falls.
Traditional Chinese Health Tips
The core of Yunshou is "using the waist as the axis and relaxing the entire body." Don't exert force, but instead move naturally like flowing water. Tai Chi emphasizes "balance between movement and stillness," and this exercise combines movement with stillness, helping you find peace amidst busyness. Remember: follow your own body's rhythm, don't force yourself. This way, you can gradually unblock your meridians, relax your muscles and bones, and make your body more flexible.
Summary

Home flexibility is actually very simple. Spend 5 minutes a day following the rhythm of Tai Chi Cloud Hands, allowing your body to stretch gently through the circular movements. It doesn't require effort or sweating, yet it can free you from stiffness. Try it out, and you will surely fall in love with this soothing form of exercise.
