Introduction
After a busy day, do you feel stiff shoulders and a sore back? Don't worry, no need to go to the gym. You can easily relieve it at home. Today, from three sets of light stretching exercises, we introduce a super simple chair yoga routine. It combines gentle stretching with the traditional Chinese medicine concept of "activating the joints and meridians," allowing you to relax while sitting, safely and comfortably.

Technique Details: Spinal Twist on the Chair
Who is it suitable for?
This exercise is especially suitable for office workers who sit for long periods, the elderly, or anyone with stiff bodies who wants to improve their posture. It's effortless, won't cause strain, and is suitable even for beginners.
Complete Steps
- Seat firmly: Sit on the front third of the chair, feet flat on the ground, knees and ankles at 90 degrees. Place your hands naturally on your thighs, gently close your eyes, and take three deep breaths to feel your body relax.
- Twist: Slowly inhale, raise your arms to the chest, and exhale while twisting your body to the right, placing your right hand on the back of the chair and your left hand on the outer side of your right knee. Look to the right rear direction with your head, keeping your shoulders relaxed. Hold for 15-20 seconds, breathing evenly. Feel the stretch in your sides and back.
- Return to the center, then twist to the left: Inhale to return to the center, then exhale and twist to the left, placing your left hand on the back of the chair and your right hand on the outer side of your left knee. Hold for 15-20 seconds.
- Finish: After returning to the center, cross your hands in front of your navel, and gently massage your abdomen 36 times (clockwise), helping to "promote the flow of qi and blood."
Physical Benefits
This movement can open up the thoracic and lumbar spine, improving slouching and hunchback. According to traditional Chinese medicine, the spine is where the "Du Meridian" flows, and twisting can unblock meridians and balance qi and blood. After practicing for a week, you will feel your back becomes lighter and your breathing more smooth.
Summary
Chair yoga is an excellent way to relieve fatigue at home, with simple movements but noticeable effects. Remember "balance between movement and stillness," spend 5 minutes each day to gradually activate your body. The other two sets of light stretching exercises (simple Pilates and Tai Chi standing postures) are also interesting; we'll introduce them next time.
